On April 22, 2014 Russian International Affairs Council hosted a presentation of a collective monograph “Britain’s Dilemmas: In Search of Ways for Development” published jointly by RIAC and RAS Institute for European Studies. Coinciding with the Russia-UK Year of Culture, the publication offers a fresh integrated analysis of Britain's domestic and foreign policies carried out by top Russian scholars. The speakers emphasized the distinctive character of the monograph, having expressed their deep gratitude to RIAC for assistance at the pre-publication phase, as well as hope that the monograph would become a key step for development of the Russian school of Britain studies known for its vast history and traditions.

The event was opened by RIAC President Igor Ivanov, followed by welcome remarks from Acting Director of RAS Institute for European Studies Alexei Gromyko, Head of Center for British Studies at RAS Institute for European Studies Elena Ananyeva, Chief Research Fellow at RAS Institute of World Economy and International Relations Efim Khesin, and MGIMO-University Professor Natalia Kapitonova.
The speakers emphasized the distinctive character of the monograph, having expressed their deep gratitude to RIAC for assistance at the pre-publication phase, as well as hope that the monograph would become a key step for development of the Russian school of Britain studies known for its vast history and traditions.
The subsequent discussion focused on Britain’s politics and economy, as well as on Russia-UK relations, with all participants stressing the central role of bilateral economic cooperation since it is the foreign policy “economization” that is likely to foster an efficient integral dialogue between Russia and the UK.
